Breather is not a music video in the traditional sense; it follows one story-arc over the length of three songs by Murfreesboro musicians, Turtle Bangs. The songs flow together smoothly, and Breather works to harness the raw emotion put forth by the band and clump it into a short film about mortality and moving on. Breather pushes to captivate viewers, sending them through the full cycle of emotions and leading them to a climax of self-reflection. While Breather emits the dark emotions surrounding the loss of a loved one, it also evokes a strong carpe diem message: use every breath as if it may be your last. South By South Wendy’s is our unofficial DIY showcase that is hosted by Owlhead Collective. The show will be held outside of our very own RAD BUS. Last year we had 4 bands that performed outside of the bus such as Religious Girls (Oakland), Unstoppable Death Machines (NY), Brainstorm (Portland), and Blastoids. This year will be even bigger and better. This year we will be featuring 18 bands during the South By South West festival. South by South Wendy’s is located between 6th and Brushy, behind the Wendy’s. Look for the yellow school bus, come hang out, & tell ya friends.

Tour de Fun is an annual bike-friendly community event that has grown exponentially over the past two years. The festival features local bands and talented artists that perform and create in the Middle Tennessee area.

The 3rd annual ride will take place on April 14th, 2012 and will begin with a cook out at 11:00 AM at Murfreesboro Outdoor and Bicycle. Festival participants will then ride out at 2:00 PM, visit over 20 houses and venues, and hear over 40 bands perform. Each location will feature between two and three bands, each performing 10 minute sets while also displaying local artist’s artwork.

During the day, attendees will visit houses and a few venues. The night brings the ride into the Murfreesboro Square. This will help keep cyclists safe once the sun has gone down. Tour De Fun is the first step in creating a more tight and friendly cycling community while showcasing talented musicians and artists.

We are pleased to announce that Blastoids will be playing this years Total Bummer 3D Music Festival in Orlando, FL presented by Spirit Cat. The festival will run from May 3rd to May 6th. The fest will also include shows by Teengirl Fantasy, Pictureplane, Cool Runnings, Walsh, Persona La Ave, Bird Names, and Michael Parallax among many others. This is going to be an amazing festival. We are stoked to announce the debut for Dark Sister’s video “Red Velvet”. These saucy ladies first debuted their video with the clothing company Mishka, on their blog “Bloglin” which features upcoming artists daily. They were also featured in Mishka’s best of 2011 blog, with mentions for their single “Haunt You” and also for their EP “Swag Hag.” Dark Sister has big plans during the year of the owl. They will be playing a series of shows down to South By South West, and ending with two official showcases in Austin, Texas. We are pleased to announce the debut of one of our own OWLHEAD COLLECTIVE artists, YER HEART. YER HEART (Colby DeHart from Murfreesboro TN), has been diligently working on this pop masterpiece for the past year and is pleased to have it out to download on Bandcamp. The album is filled with sing-a-longs about love, friendship, and making out. It’s guaranteed to make you tap your toes and nod your head and then bust your ass on the dance floor. YER HEART will set out upon a 2 week tour to support his debut album. Our good friend and Halifax popstar Rich Aucoin‘s recent full length We’re All Dying to Live is one of the most energetic and ambitious albums we’ve ever heard, as it features a ridiculous 500+ guests appearances and an epic 22 tracks. Now, he’s released his first professional music video, “It,” and it has a fittingly epic and  innovative concept.

The video for this soaring, triumphant pop anthem finds Rich re-imagining some of his favorite movie scenes. Director Noah Pink explains the concept:

The concept for this video was born while Rich and I were chatting over coffee in Toronto about movies from our youth that have had a lasting impact on us. It was one of those fun, superfluous conversations that suddenly sparks an idea. Rich always incorporates his favorite film clips and YouTube videos into his live performance, so why not try and take it a step further, putting Rich into the actual films?  We took it from there, made a list of about 25 films we wanted to re-create from scratch (putting a Rich-themed twist into every scene), and then I had the difficult task of weeding them down to 10 films that we could achieve with our budget. To be honest, it was a miracle we could pull off as much as we did.
